I heard a very beautiful quote from a sermon I was listening to this week. “Roots are the private display of your relationship with Christ and fruits are the public display of your relationship and obedience to Christ.” Hearing that quote really helped my brain paint a picture of what we are to look like spiritually. As we pursue Christ in our private prayer and worship we are growing roots in our faith. Our faith is maturing and “hunkering down” for anything that could come to try to blow it over. Fruits? What does that look like? It’s those personal attributes that reflect Christ. It’s that patience with your neighbor, the love to your community, that kindness you show in your ministry you serve in. The beautiful thing is these two things can’t exist without the other. Without roots, there will be no bearing of fruit. Without fruit, that means the root system aren’t as deep and established as they should be. If we Remain in Christ our roots will grow deep and we will bear much fruit. ““I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NIV
