This whole year during my pastor's corner time I have been talking about LOVE Living Our Values Inside and Out or Everywhere which is our theme for this year as a church. Today on this special day I want to talk about our value of and in our Mothers.
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:1
At the time of creation, God established the figure of a mother when He created Eve from the rib of Adam. Eve was considered the mother of all living (Genesis 3:20). The importance of honoring parents is mentioned not only in the Old Testament but also in the New: Matthew 15:4, Matthew 19:19, Mark 7:10, Mark 10:19, Luke 18:20, and Ephesians 6:2.
These scriptures are repeated for a reason: God wanted all humans to understand the significance of honoring their fathers and mothers. Honoring parents is connected to a long life. Valuing parents and their contribution to our lives is something that God commanded because He felt it was important. So you might be saying well how do I honor or value my mother. As children we honor them by being obedient. As adults we honor them by living out the values that moms and parents have instilled in us. As mothers we honor God by teaching our children whether those we have birthed physically or those we have birthed spiritually how to honor God and follow His Word. Today on this Mother’s Day we set aside a special time to honor our mothers naturally and our mothers of the faith but this should be an everyday thing in the way we live out our values before one another. Paul says it this way in Romans ”Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.“
Romans 12:10 NLT
Thank you to all the Mothers naturally and spiritually in the house today. We bless you all.
Blessings
